This year I have been asked to participate in the Affordable Art Fair in New York City through the online gallery, Ugallery!  This is a huge honor to show with this gallery at this event.  Ugallery is a juried fine art online gallery that represents about 500 artists.  The art that they show is fantastic stuff!!  Since showing with Ugallery, I have been able to show and sell art to people all around the world, my pricing has continued to rise and it has pushed me to continue to grow as an artist.  The works that they will be showing of mine are shown below.
Each piece will be packed in one of their custom made boxes and shipped out to NYC in the first couple weeks of March.
I hope to see that these paintings are all given a new home this March during the AAF in NYC!   I hope that all the artists showing at AAF have a great showing.
Have you ever been to the AAF?  If so, please tell me all about it!

This is the current appearance of my little studio space.  These days I work in a double office suite in Fort Worth, Texas and it's wonderful!!
I am the only painter in this office building but at the same time I feel very at home here.   The office building is diverse with professions ranging from CPA's, a small church, a trucking company, "massage therapists", and an incredible fashion designer. The carpet in my studio can get as painted as I can make it and will come out  when I leave.  There is a separate room that functions as a work space and a room for storage, a bathroom, sink, heating and air conditioning.  After over 10 years of working in a studio space without either of these amenities.  So, what to do about those ceiling tiles and a good system for lighting?  Any ideas?
Sometimes I just enjoy being able to sit and relax as I look at work.   This space has a couple fairly clean white walls for viewing current works in progress and space to work on either an easel, wall or on the floor.
The large painting showing the Geishas swimming with the octopus measures 48x72 and is a work in progress.  The works leaning up against that one are 48x60 and are also in the rotation of works in progress.  The single piece against the white wall is 48x60 and is also a work in progress.  The Indian Chief painting a finished work, is a finished work and is available here http://www.ugallery.com/ProductList.aspx?RC=1&Search=scott+dykema
So.... Where do you work and what makes your space the place to be?   Do you like your work space?

Working in Midland....  A beautiful home and family

The past six days have been full of hours filled with seconds of focused work.  This home is a massive collection of intelligent decorative choices.  Norma Crossland is an incredible woman.  She and Ron Crossland are the owners of the most fantastic home I have ever worked in.  The attention to detail that she has put into this space will leave you completely captivated.  Several times throughout the week as I sat down I realized that I could spend hours sitting just taking in each space.  The home is amazing!!
During my time there, I worked on 2 bathrooms:  The master bathroom and the powder bathroom.  The master bathroom is such a grand space built around a great piece of art and hammered copper tub!  Norma asked me to just pick some colors from the painting and develop a wall finish to make it a nice home.  I would love to get ready in this space!!
For the powder bathroom we decided that it would be nice to take some of the decorative elements from the artwork and create a fancy, fun space.  The walls were a pink tone and I took a design and hand painted it randomly over each wall.  Then I took a product and using a caulking gun, applied it over each hand painted design.  Once this dried, I added an adhesive and then gold leaf.  The finish was hard to photograph but its something that will be a conversation piece for years to come.  I am so pleased with the results and I was so happy to hear that Norma was too!
There will be more projects to come in the Crossland home!  Please let me know if you have any comments that  you would like to share about your own paint experiences and or about the works shown here in this entry.
Make something, anything and then make some more.

Getting ready to make some change and this is a start...

Today as I work in a beautiful home in Midland, Texas I am taking a moment to start this blog.  No, I am not ready to wow you with content.  I am ready to start a journey where I am able to share about my experiences in my world of art.  Maybe in some of the coming entries I will take an opportunity to share what my studio space looks like and what goes on inside my studio.  Maybe the blog will feature conversations with other artists or maybe even with clients.  Either way, I look at this as an opportunity to reach out while at the same time analyzing my own life experiences and maybe some of those around me.
This first post is something that I have been putting off in fear of writing something of little to no interest to anyone.  But this post is an introduction.  I am typing to get into the habit of typing and looking at my website to study it and find ways in which I can improve it.  So, this is a post to say hello and that I am looking forward to forming a new habit and to all that I may learn or help you learn about.  I want to know, what do you want to know about?  What do you want to learn about?
So, as I stated earlier, I am working in a home so I had better get back to that.
